Daniel slunk into the hotel room, making sure that the door latched silently behind
him.

He toed his shoes off carefully, confident he'd move quieter without them.

Daniel slipped his jacket off of his shoulders, wincing at the sound the leather made
against his shirt. He stopped abruptly as the zipper pull clinked against the teeth,
holding his breath to listen to the room's other occupant.

Nothing. Didn't even roll over.

Daniel started breathing again, making sure that the first exhalation wasn't loud
enough to be heard.

He laid the jacket down on the chair carefully. It was followed by his shirt, and the
T shirt underneath.

Daniel was grateful he was wearing his button fly jeans tonight; he started slipping
the buttons open one by one. The denim slid easily over his hips and onto the floor.
The socks were removed just as quickly.

Next, the bed. Daniel had experience slipping quietly into beds, even ones with creaky
springs in the mattresses. The hotel beds were foam; murder on the back, but thankfully
relatively noiseless. He pulled the covers back just enough to get under, and slowly
lowered himself onto the bed. Daniel pulled the blankets up to his chin, grinning at how
easy it had been to sneak in. He was getting better at this.

The bedside lamp snapped on, blinding him. His vision finally cleared to reveal the
presence of one serious looking Air Force colonel.

"Hi, Jack."

Jack didn't say anything.

"I, uh, couldn't sleep, and ummm, went for a walk. Perfect night for it." Daniel tried smiling,
but didn't think Jack was buying it.

"All those negotiations... I just thought that going out, getting some air, it would, you know...
relax me. Maybe even come up with some good ideas for tomorrow. Major Davis did want
us to brainstorm solutions, remember?" He cranked the smile up a bit.

Jack's only response was a scowl. Daniel shifted slightly under the covers, feeling a bit like a
kid who'd been caught out after curfew.

"OK, OK, I admit it. I went out for a coffee. Damn it, Jack, I know Dr. Frasier said I
shouldn't have any, but the withdrawal was killing me and I had one hell of a headache, and
I couldn't sleep, so I went out for a coffee. Just one. Just to take the edge off. OK?"

Jack raised an eyebrow, looking slightly surprised. "Really. Frasier told you no coffee? Gee,
and here I was thinking you'd just gone and gotten some self control this trip."

"You... you mean she didn't..." Daniel kicked himself mentally. Way to go, Jackson.

"Nope. Not a word. Didn't even know you'd gone out. I was just waking you up."

"Why?" Daniel was really confused now.

"You asked me to wake you up this morning."

Daniel squinted at the clock beside him. "I asked you to wake me up at 3:30 am."

"Yep."

"Jack, why in Sam Hill would I ask you to wake me up at 3:30 am?"

Jack was grinning rather like the proverbial cat. "Because, Daniel, you wanted to go
jogging. You asked me to wake you up early enough to jog, shower, have a nice
breakfast, and have enough time to head back to the meeting."

Daniel thought about this. They were due back at the Pentagon for 6 am. To do
everything he wanted, they would have to wake up... "Oh."

"Maybe we should skip the jog this morning."

"Ummm, yeah."

"Maybe I could wake you up at 5:15, which would give you enough time to shower,
grab a muffin, and get dressed, and if we hurry we'll get to the meeting just in time."
Jack was looking decidedly smug.

Daniel smiled gratefully, and started to lie down again.

"And Daniel?" Looking up, Daniel saw Jack grinning wickedly as he reached for the
lightswitch. "Buy me an insanely expensive dinner tonight, and the coffee doesn't get
mentioned."
