"This is the song that never ends..."

Jack gripped the steering wheel tighter as he did his best to control
his anger.

Somehow, he'd been Shanghaied into driving. He had no idea how. He
certainly had never *intended* to drive. He'd rather be a million other places
right now. Hell, even being tortured by Apophis had to rate higher on his
things-to-do list today.

"It just goes on and on my friends..."

The off-key, top-of-the-lungs enthusiasm being shown by the other occupants
of the car was wildly misplaced. It had been a long, long day, filled with hiking
and spelunking and a trip to an old fashioned malt shop.

"Some people started singing it not knowing what it was..."

OK, in retrospect he realized that taking them all in for root beer floats and
chocolate ice cream had been a *bad* thing.

"And now they'll go on singing it forever just because..."

Jack tried to remember the infinite patience he'd had with Charlie, how he
could put up with the million little things the young boy found fascinating.
How he could sit through the same video a hundred times and never get
bored with it. How he could put the same puzzle together over and over again,
each time treating it like he'd never seen it before.

"This is the song that never ends..."

Jack ran through the mental exercises he had learned in Special Ops, the ones
that had sustained him through four months of torture and interrogation at the
hands of the Iraqis. The ones that allowed him to withstand the Blood of Sokar.

"It just goes on and on my friends..."

Jack took a deep breath and counted to ten. Then to fifteen. Then to thirty-five.

"Some people started singing it not knowing what it was..."

A low growl started deep in his chest. He felt it building inside of him, waiting to
get out. He bit his tongue, hard, trying to control his anger.

"And now they'll go on singing it forever just because..."

'O God,' he prayed, raising his eyes momentarily to the heavens. 'Please don't ever
let the Goa'uld learn how easy it is to break me.'

"This is the song that never ends..."

"That's it! If you don't stop singing that song *right now* I am stopping this car,
and I promise you, you will *not* like the consequences!"

"It just..."

The singing died out mid-stream.

"I do not understand, O'Neill. If this song never ends, why would anyone start
singing it? And if it truly went on forever, why have we stopped?"

"You'll have to ask Carter and Daniel that." Jack shot a scathing look to his other
teammates through the rearview mirror. "Later."

Several minutes passed in blissful silence.

Jack started to relax, making a mental note to never arrange a team outing like this
again. Or at least to avoid all sugar intake by the younger two while in public.

"Jack?"

Jack sighed. "Yes, Daniel?"

"Are we there yet?"
